Fibble is a variation of Wordle where there is one lie in the feedback. Unlike Wordle each row will have one tile that is incorrect. You have to try to work out which tile is the lie.

How it Works

Wordle normally gives you accurate feedback. If a letter is green it means it is in the right place. Yellow means the letter is present but in the wrong place and Gray means the letter isn't present in the word at all. Fibble works the same way except one letter in each of your 6 guesses will be inaccurate. You will never be told which letter is the lie.

Why It Can Be Tricky

In Wordle you know if a letter is green then it is definitely in the right place. In Fibble there may be a chance that it is actually yellow or gray. This makes you have to take all of your feedback as tentative. You won't be able to be confident any letters are in certain places until you have checked multiple guesses.

Working it Out

Cross Checking

To work it out, you want to check if there are any consistencies. If letter A is gray in your first guess but you think it could be the lie, make sure to put that letter in your next guess. If it turns green in your third guess and it definitely isn't the lie then you have solved your problem. However if it stays gray throughout then it is likely the lie wasn't letter A in your first guess.

Look for Duplicates

If the same letter is giving you the same colour in multiple rows then it is likely that it isn't the lie. The more times it is appearing the less likely it is that it is the lie. Build up confidence in the letters that are being confirmed multiple times. Be wary of any letters that aren't being confirmed by any other guesses.

Eliminate Options

Each row has 5 tiles and only one will be incorrect. After your first 2 guesses write down which tiles could be the lie in each row. This can be based on what letters you could still make a solvable word with. This will help eliminate any letters that couldn't possibly be the lie. This is very similar to Wordle where you eliminate words but with an extra element of logic.

Good Starting Words

As with Wordle good starting words contain 5 unique letters. These letters should be high frequency consonants and vowels. CRANE, STARE and RAISE are all great choices. They give you the most information in your first row. It is also important to start with common letters as if the lie is a gray tile stating a common letter isn't present then your guesses are likely to conflict with it quickly.

Overall Difficulty

This game is much harder. In Wordle you can be confident that each guess will narrow down your options. Whereas in Fibble you may get misled by a lie and it can widen your options. Most people will find they need 1-2 more guesses than they usually do in Wordle. The game only allows you 6 guesses so there is a lot of pressure.

Where To Play

You can play Fibble here: fibble.xyz. There is a daily puzzle where there is one hidden word to solve each day. There is also a practice mode. If you are finding Wordle too easy when only guessing one word then this is a good next step. The feedback system is quite tricky and can really challenge you.
